River
Oak Collie's
We raise AKC Collie's: Sable, Sable Merle, Blue Merle and Tri, Roughs.
I am relatively new to raising Collie's (6 years). I do this
because I love the breed and want to share their magic with others.
Since I began this endeavor of love I have met some of the nicest
people in these United States, and many keep in touch with letters,
emails and pictures of their adopted Collie's. I feel it is more of an
adoption than a sale, and hardly anyone argues when they have to fill
out a questionnaire.
Collie's
want to please, and are a very adaptable breed. I am not as young
as I once was and the Collie's seem to take this into
consideration but when my great grandchildren are here they are
like
puppies bouncing around and having a great time. Collie's
naturally love
children and are drawn like magnets toward them.
I don’t show my Collie's so their ears are not trained,
because to me they are beautiful just the way they happen to grow;
however training their ears is a very simple matter if you want to show
them, or just have a more traditional looking Collie.
Each puppy leaving River Oak's will have been loved and treated as part of
our family, be healthy and will have been at least partially potty
trained. My pups come with age appropriate vaccines, worming, health
certificates and health guarantees. If for any reason someone is not
able to keep one of my pups/dogs, I will be happy to have that
Collie back in our family until such time I can place it with
someone new, who would love him/her.
River Oak's is surrounded by 5 acres of gorgeous pine forest and I hope this
summer to partially clear another ½ acre and fence it for
the Collie's. There is a 35’ x
35’ clearing filled with gravel in the back (with a doggie
door into the sun room) where the dogs spend their days in the nice
weather, and an 8’ x 10’ insulated (heated and
cooled) dog house attached to an outdoor pen where they sleep or play
when they are not indoors or in the back… Pups are whelped
inside, and kept indoors until 6 weeks old when they are permitted in
the pen, if the weather is agreeable.
A Collie is a joy waiting for that special someone to come along. A man
who purchased a Collie from our first litter summed it up perfectly, he
said, "after having a Collie, every other dog would just be a
dog," that a Collie was that special. I, of course, agree
completely, they are the only breed who could possibly put up with my
rescue Chihuahua's on a loud day.
